Peaks and Valleys: A Study on the Life of David

Leader:Joy Stemm & Noelle Melton
Day/Time: Fridays 9:15-11:15am
Materials Needed: Peaks and Valleys: A Study on the Life of David
Study Description:
Do you struggle to feel connected to God when life is hard? Do you struggle with connecting difficult Old Testament narratives to the gospel of Jesus Christ? Do you wonder why David’s life is included in the greater story of Scripture?

As Christians, we strive to read the Bible from beginning to end. But it’s easy to feel disconnected from the events and characters in the Old Testament. Do they really point to God, His Son, and salvation? How? David is one of the best examples we have in Scripture to answer that question.

Jesus is called the Son of David, but David was by no means perfect. His life was full of peaks and valleys–highs and lows in every way, both emotionally, physically, and spiritually. But when you learn to see David as a “type and shadow” of Jesus, the light of the gospel shines forth in his story—and enlightens yours as well.

Homework: 20-30 minutes five days a week

“Aging with Grace” by Sharon Betters and Susan Hunt

Leader: Joyce Howard
Day/Time: Friday 9:15-11:15am
Materials Needed: “Aging with Grace” by Sharon Betters and Susan Hunt
Study Description:
Thinking Biblically and Living Covenantally by utilizing God’s unrelenting Grace to flourish in an anti-aging culture...recognizing that “old” is not a number! Whatever season of life you’re in, God has equipped you to flourish―to live in the transforming power and beauty of his grace. As we age, we can easily lose sight of this message as cultural ideals glorifying youth take center stage.

In this book, Sharon W. Betters and Susan Hunt offer present-day and biblical examples of women who rediscovered gospel-rooted joy later in their lives. Equipped with a biblical view of aging, Aging with Grace will help you encounter afresh the gospel that “is big enough, good enough, and powerful enough to make every season of life significant and glorious.”

Suggested Preparation time: 2 hours per week.
